Products like Dynamat, KilMat and similar sound "deadening" products absorb vibrations, whereas a lot of "road noise" is higher frequency sound. They provide some bass improvement and no more rattling in the doors and a better "thunk" when shutting doors but road noise remains.
To reduce road noise, temporarily remove the seats, carpet, etc. add foam or other sound absorbing material (insulation) on the floors, around the wheel arches, under the roof, inside the doors & side panels (in addition to a base layer of Dynamat or similar product), etc. One product people recommend is: 3M Thinsulate.
" This layer comes first for a reason. Without controlling panel resonance, every layer above it sits on moving metal. Insulation and barriers can only do their job once the substrate is still."
