Fuel Injection Retrofit - a Holley Sniper Alternative

MSD Atomic EFI

As mentioned on FB Jeep group: "... that's why we always recommend MSD Atomic EFI as our preference for add on EFI. It is fairly simple install, does not require a return line for under 550 HP and have gobs of programing options to fit whatever vehicle you put it on. We have also installed multiple Sniper systems without too many problems but they definitely require more work.
... it has been our experience that correct installation is key on any bolt on EFI system.
  • For example, if you have incorrect readings from the O2 sensor due to incorrect placement or headers leaking or wiring not done correctly it will never work.
  • Our first EFI installation was a real bear and although we thought we did it right in fact we did not and until we figured out what we did wrong, with a lot of help from the MSD techs, it did not run right.
  • Another example, you MUST use the adjustable rotor to set the initial timing at start up 15 degrees retarded AFTER you set it up at 0 degrees top dead center with a standard rotor.
  • Similarly, the mass air flow sensor circuit has some nuances as well that if set up incorrectly will make the system run like crap.
  • Likewise, what they consider a mild cam profile and what we consider a mild cam profile are very different.
  • We also found that a single plane intake works hugely better than a dual plane intake.
  • Those couple of issues and more being wrong have a huge impact on how the system runs or contrarily does not run. The first one took us literally a week and half to install and get set up correctly. Now it takes us a day and a half and it always works just as it is designed to work.
  • I pity anyone who does a bolt on EFI system one time and has problems as they will likely never get it figured out before they give up and take it back off. Had we not been doing it for a customer I would have likely thrown it in the trash.
  • I am sure we lost a big chunk of change on the first install because I did not feel that the customer should pay for our learning curve but now they go right in an always work great. Experience and awareness of the quirks related to any systems has a huge advantage in making the installation go smoothly."
